ABSTRACT

This chapter commences with a description of the public health impacts and attendant policies pertaining to the uses of tobacco products. In particular, cigarettes, cigars, pipes, and smokeless tobacco are discussed as to use and health impacts. The global prevalence and users of tobacco products are described. International and U.S. federal, state, and local policies on tobacco products usage are described. Special attention is given to regulations that require labeling of tobacco products as to their adverse health effects. Also described are vaping devices and marijuana smoking. A discussion of marijuana smoking concludes this chapter. This subject is topical given the number of U.S. states that have approved the sale of recreational marijuana. The consequences of recreational smoking of marijuana are emerging, as discussed in this chapter.
