ABSTRACT

The six chapters in this volume are considered by the authors as addressing the principal environmental hazards affecting human and ecological health. Reflections on these six environmental hazards gave rise to several observations, which in order are the following. First, the six environmental hazards are global in their adverse effects. Climate change is the environmental hazard that has the greatest potential for adverse global health impacts. Mitigation policies such as government statutes and accompanying regulations are only as effective as their enforcement. The health of children should be a principal component of mitigation strategies and actions. Climate change portends significant issues of availability security for water and food. Youth education about environmental hazards and their health effects should be included in school curricula.
