ABSTRACT

In this chapter, collection methods used for darkling beetles are described and the reasons for the uneven distribution of the collected beetles in the peninsula are given. Besides, the methodology used to test the differences between the number of collection sites between North and South Sinai is described. Tenebrionid beetles have been collected by a) watching the soil surface for movements of their adults; b) searching under stones, logs and bark of dead or dying wood; c) examining other objects covering the soil or sand surface; d) digging into the upper layer of the sand and e) looking for beetles among fish remains and piles of algae accumulated on the beach due to the sea activity, and by using pitfall traps. The preliminary analysis of the differentiation between North and South Sinai was done by employing a binomial statistical test.
