ABSTRACT

This chapter provides an overview and detailed information about coating systems which are applicable and common in offshore oil and gas industry for piping, valves and actuators. The first coating system is organic and inorganic zinc. The applications and differences of zinc coatings including zinc epoxy (organic) and zinc silicates (inorganic) are explained. Thermal spray zinc and aluminum coatings are other types covered in this chapter. Passive fire protection coating is applicable for cases where the facility is required to be protected against fire and explosion in addition to corrosion. Phenolic epoxy is a suitable coating for the protection of components under insulation. In addition, two-component epoxy coating that is widely used for subsea or immersion zone is covered. This chapter explains coating components such as pigment, binder, solvent, filler and extenders in detail. Applicable coating standards such as NORSOSK, NACE, ISO and SSPC are explained. The last section of this chapter is devoted to health, safety and environment (HSE) coating.
