ABSTRACT

In this chapter on “Quality and process Management in a Spinning mill” author covers all the Quality Management practices, starting from raw material inspection to final process inspection. Today mills have lot of customer complaints on “Contamination” issues in final fabric /garment from the end user. Estimation of contamination index in cotton is explained which will help spinners to decide on the measures to be taken for reduction of the same during the process. The objective of each process in a spinning mill has been vividly explainted.KPI-Key Performance Indicators in each process has been discussed in depth and suitable actions are recommended to maintain the parameters under control. Statistical tools which are necessary for Spinning mills Quality Assurance Management have been covered in detail.Norms based on industry practices for incoming material quality, in-process quality and final process quality are highlighted for critical quality characteristics. Classimat faults and package defects are explained in simple terms. Methods to conduct Process Audit and Quality Audit have been explained with structured formats. Case studies are utilized to explain few shop floor critical challenges like higher endbreaks in Ring frame with Compact system, higher level of Count CV in final yarn, higher level of clearer cuts in Autoconer and higher level of FD(Foreign fiber) cuts in Autoconer.
