ABSTRACT

Analyzing social data is essential as the world, and the businesses that run it, are becoming increasingly social. For example, over the last few years, governments started to extract knowledge and derive insights from vastly growing social data to personalize the advertisements in elections, improve government services, predict intelligence activities, unravel human trafficking activities, understand the impact of news on stock markets, analysis of financial risks; accelerate scientific discovery, as well as to improve national security and public health. In particular, social data analytics is now a vital asset for organizations and governments, and acquiring knowledge at a large scale from social data will present prodigious potential over the next few years. This chapter gives an overview of social data analytics, along with challenges and opportunities in the age of big data and Artificial Intelligence.
