ABSTRACT

The exponential growth of online social media platforms has considerably transformed peopleӳ way of interacting. Social media platforms also track how individuals engage and interact. Consequently, it has opened new horizons for learning information and sharing ideas, causing the creation of unique content. Text data is the most prevalent way of conveying meaning among various data formats exchanged in social data, including statistics, images, and videos. Most of the microblogging services, such as Twitter, restrict users in terms of text size they can share online. However, the number of times a user can post on social media is not limited, leading to a large amount of online data. Text analytic tools facilitate satisfying usersҠdistinct information demands effectively. In this chapter, we first overview text analytic approaches by analyzing textual data features. We also explain distinguished aspects of social textual data and its difference from standard text data, followed by categorizing text analytical tasks in social media from various viewpoints. The research progress of employing text analytic approaches in each category is also discussed.
