ABSTRACT

Large-scale disasters and pandemics present numerous logistics challenges for the people managing the response. This chapter introduces some applications where the streamlined logistics systems are adapted to the challenging conditions posed by the disasters. Concepts of vehicle routing and facility locations are adjusted by changing the focus from cost minimisation to coverage maximisation, delay minimisation and ensuring the equity in disaster relief distribution. Destruction caused by the disasters generate enormous quantity of debris. This chapter also covers some of the models aimed at efficient clearing and recovery of the road infrastructure.
