ABSTRACT

A thorough grounding in the structure of the typical development company is a precursor to comprehending a development project. Real estate entity organizational structure is largely a creature of legal and financial concerns over isolating entities and risk. To push their career forward, every young developer, real estate attorney and debt or equity associate should learn the art of drawing organizational and transactional charts, having a solid understanding of the roles of the various parties to the development process, from the details of the developer and its equity partners interactions to form the owner entity to how the owner then enters into the loan agreement and contracts with the various design, construction and property management firms.
