ABSTRACT

In the introduction, epistemological questions regarding the nature of the universe are examined. Initially, brief arguments on the origins of the universe are presented from the perspective of prominent atheistic scientists, and some of the strengths and limitations of these scientific explanations are explored. Theological and philosophical answers related to the question of how the universe came to be are also briefly analyzed, and the impacts these views had on some of humanity’s greatest scientific minds are explored. Finally, the case for agnosticism is raised, and the basis for some prominent scientists’ agnostic beliefs is investigated. The introduction concludes with a rationale for why atheists, theists, and agnostics will take interest in this text. In addition, the limitations of the text are delineated, and my personal perspective on why it is worth exploring fundamental questions about our universe is presented.
