ABSTRACT

In Papua New Guinea one would expect that tribal groups did not harvest the sweet potatoes all at once, so that, with a certain planning and labor, food would always be available. [However,] I have witnessed several times that Tribal Communities harvested all the available food once it was Party Time. After that, those communities suffered from hunger, and borrowed or stole sweet potatoes from neighboring Tribes to plant them for the next harvest, three to four months later.
