ABSTRACT

International scientific research has found a series of decisive correspondences between the Sudarium of Oviedo and the Shroud of Turin. This chapter describes several features of the Sudarium of Oviedo that correspond to the features of the Shroud of Turin. It looks at the part of the Shroud that covered the head, to allow comparison with the Sudarium that wrapped a head too. The Shroud of Turin and the Sudarium of Oviedo, each of them, separately, have been analysed to determine whether they can be the sepulchral Shroud of Jesus of Nazareth and the Sudarium present in the tomb of Jesus. The features on the Shroud of Turin are abundant and unequivocally correspond to a Roman crucifixion of a male. Traces of a crown of thorns punishment are also present in both cloths. The crown of thorns is an extremely specific torture of the Passion of Christ.
