ABSTRACT

A decay heat removal system ensures heat removal from the core under all conditions, whether in operation or shutdown due to occurrence of certain events. This chapter describes various options of decay heat removal in loop- and pool-type fast reactors. The basics of natural convection modeling are presented. Besides presenting the decay heat schemes in different fast reactors, the FBTR and PFBR decay heat removal schemes are described, and details of dynamic models and their validation are presented.
