ABSTRACT

Fast Reactors employ centrifugal pumps for large sodium flows in the main heat transport system and electromagnetic pumps for small flows in the auxiliary circuits. A single-phase centrifugal pump model for transient and steady-state analysis is presented in his chapter. Fundamental equations of the model are angular momentum balance to determine transient impeller speed and mass balance to determine the level of sodium in the pump tank. Pump characteristics are modelled by homologous head and torque relations. All regions of pump operation including reverse rotation and flow are considered in the model.
