ABSTRACT

The simulation of the hydraulics of primary and secondary sodium is important to arrive at the sodium flows that are an input to the thermal calculations of the core and heat exchangers. This chapter delves into the hydraulics calculation scheme for a loop-type reactor. The model includes the equations for pressure drop, levels in capacities, and argon pressures in capacities. The simultaneous solution of these equations is difficult in view of the varying time constants for pressure and levels. Different methods of solution are discussed, and suitable scheme is recommended. The results of the model are validated against experiments. Also presented is the model for secondary sodium hydraulics. Finally results of a natural convection test conducted on the FBTR plant are compared with predictions of the model.
