ABSTRACT

The design of a culvert takes into consideration of hydraulic efficiency, structural safety, and regular maintenance to remove urban trash, debris, and sediment deposits. In this chapter, a culvert is introduced with hydraulic elements such as a head wall and wing walls at the entrance, a conduit pipe with various cross-sectional geometries, and tail walls and floodplains at the exit. The hydraulic capacity of a culvert is evaluated with both inlet and outlet control conditions, and then the conservative one is recommended for designs.
