ABSTRACT
Hydraulic jump and drop are the most effective measures for dissipating the excessive energy associated with channel flow. A sufficient tailwater depth is essential to trigger a hydraulic jump. In this chapter, both energy and momentum principles are reviewed and are introduced to size a basin and also to determine the effectiveness of energy dissipation. Examples include a drop structure, plunging pool, and stilling basin for various applications.
