ABSTRACT

The kinematic wave (KW) approach is the most popular numerical method to simulate cascading flows. The runoff hydrograph produced from an upstream area is treated as an input to the downstream receiving area. As a rule of thumb, the cascading flow system is preferable because it promotes on-site runoff volume reduction and water quality enhancement. In this chapter, several numerical algorithms are introduced to calculate the cumulative runoff flows from a series of cascading KW planes.
