ABSTRACT
Open channel hydraulics is an applied science developed to understand the nature of open channel flows and to design infrastructures to deliver water flows. In engineering practice, a water flow is called open channel flow wherever a free water surface exists. The free water surface profile under atmospheric pressure represents the hydraulic gradient line (HGL). An open channel flow is driven by gravity and sensitive to hydraulic and energy gradients.
