ABSTRACT

The first International Biometric Conference (IBC) was held at Woods Hole in September 1947 during which the Biometric Society was founded. Drawing upon the Archival records, in this chapter, we review the history of IBCs and other important Symposia spanning the life of the Society focussing particularly on its first fifty-year existence. In the early years, IBCs were held at irregular intervals until 1982 when it was determined they be held every second year. In the course of this review, we see the evolution of the subject matter as reflected in scientific sessions, as well as the structure and format of what have become very successful exchanges of scientific developments.
