ABSTRACT

The pumping system is an essential component of hydraulic systems. This chapter starts with a summary of equations followed by a description of various types of pumps used in the industry. The chapter includes figures and tables used in design of pumping systems. The principal equations for the design of functional and economical pumping systems are described. Examples of various pumping system designs and cost assessments are included. The chapter also describes combining pumps in series or parallel, as well as the correct design of intake and discharge structures. Designs for municipal systems using a combined pump and pipe network are described and assessed.
