ABSTRACT

This chapter explores how identity changes, specifically how the authors understand and represent ourselves, through three examples: selfies, influencers, and the quantified self. Digitalization changes the ways in which exercise data is collected, which types of data are collected, and how they are analyzed. In QS, digitalization has also caused major changes, as the transition from bodily experiences to digital twins affects both how users interpret themselves and how they act in the world. For influencers, digitalization has affected who can become famous as well as what content can be created, but it is worth noting that the intimate details and interactions that characterize influencer content still have a great deal in common with "celebrity gossip" magazines. Digitalization does not only provide new ways of thinking about ourselves but also causes us to create many versions of ourselves.
