ABSTRACT

This chapter links established methods such as interviews, observations, and document analysis to the study of digitalization processes. It assumes that the readers already have basic training in qualitative methods. This guide can be used as a toolbox with tips and tricks to help them better explore digitalization in practice, and it is particularly aimed at students who are planning to write a paper, report, or exam about digitalization. Qualitative methods are well-suited to the study of digitalization processes because they allow for nuanced and contradictory descriptions of technological meaning and practice. To understand what you are most interested in, try making a mind map. Place your thematic guiding star in the middle, and then explore what it relates to and which connections are most interesting.
