ABSTRACT

Design approaches to multi-mode resonant electric dipole antennas are presented in this chapter. After the introduction of brief history of classical electric dipoles, eigenmode theory of symmetric, resonant dipole is deduced according to the telegrapher’s equation. Dual-mode resonant design approaches to 1-D straight, linear dipole and 2-D sectorial dipoles at their respective basic form are accordingly presented: Bilaterally stub-loaded, dual-mode linear dipole, and dual-mode, full-wavelength sectorial dipole have been respectively designed and studied. Then, dual-band symmetric bent dipole and its off-center version have been presented to validate the multi-mode resonant dipole theory in further. Finally, recent developments in multi-mode resonant dipoles are introduced.
