ABSTRACT

Train monitoring and controlling are integrated into a single system through data links between trains, central office computers, and wayside computers. The communication segment provides a communication path between office, track element, train and roadway. It is one of the advanced technologies that is widely used for tracking, positioning, surveying and navigation because of its less maintenance demand. The satellite-based navigation with wireless sensor technology can make big boom in communication. The chapter explains the integration systems utilized in the implementation of an intelligent train monitoring system using different sensors such as RFID, GPS, GPRS and GIS. Developing the theoretic framework on multi-sensor data fusion is taking context into consideration. The method is to combine numerical and symbolic information in order to have a fusion process in different levels. The level of treatment that analyzes the context data using contextual variables for the estimation process model is designed. The outcome result is dominating the measurements provided by sensors well-adapted to maximum context data and to minimize the not well-adapted sensors.
