ABSTRACT
Chapter 2 considers global properties of plane curves. A global property of a geometric object is one that must take into account the object as a whole. Many exciting theorems in differential geometry connect local properties to global properties. This chapter presents the connection between differential geometry and the rotation index of a curve, the winding number of a curve around a point, the isoperimetric inequality, and convexity.
