ABSTRACT

Risk management is merely the function of identifying the abundant opportunities and threats in any given operation and accurately assessing their potential likelihood and outcome. This can essentially be done by anyone who fundamentally understands the operation in question, or is at least able to ask pertinent questions of those who actually perform the operation. Design affects how something is ultimately used, and the way something is used will affect the design of similar products in the future. A modern aircraft is a highly complex machine that relies on very specialized design. Consequently, it requires many hours of training for someone to be competent to fly it. The safety inherent in the design of anything is entirely dependent on how and where it is to be used and by whom. An initial risk in operating any new product is the realization that some form of adaptation may be required to enable the legal use of the product.
