ABSTRACT

As an organization becomes larger and more complex, it is inevitable that it will require ever greater numbers of documents. Document systems, like many aspects of organizational growth, can be hampered by an organic rather than a concerted development. The proliferation of documentation since the promises of moving away from it may also be as a result of an increasing appetite for litigation over the same period. When looking at the document management system of any organization, one should consider if its policy of use is suitably robust and mature. This should state, at the very least, how the system operates, by whom, what the decision-making process is, and who is the ultimate authority. Something that is often witnessed in organizations of all sizes, not just large or complex ones, is the voluminous size that general policy documents can run to. Displaying the correct certification is as important as having it in the first place.
