ABSTRACT

In this chapter, I turn to the consideration of Wise places – the organisation of healthcare practice and how it enables or undermines the delivery of advanced generalist, whole person healthcare. Again, I use three case studies to highlight the contextual, workplace elements that need to be in place to support everyday generalist knowledge work. I revisit both the BOUNCEBACK and Complex Needs projects, looking this time at the practice-level factors which enabled and disabled generalist knowledge work in context. I also introduce a third case study – the evaluation of the PACT frailty initiatives. This chapter introduces three new elements to our understanding of how to create the Places needed to delivery generalism-in-action: the need to rethink access, team-working and the creation of learning spaces.
