ABSTRACT

In the final chapter, I invite a panel of international colleagues to reflect on the ideas outlined in this book and the proposals described for their own contexts. I am joined by Professor Kurt Stange (USA), Professor Jane Gunn (Australia), Professor Chris van Weel (Netherlands), Dr Koki Kato (Japan) and Dr Stefan Hjorleifsson (Norway) to consider if and how the principles of advanced generalist knowledge work happen in their own context. All recognise the importance and value of this type of work; but also describe significant contextual barriers to practice on the ground. Their conversations reflect and extend the professional, organisation and policy issues discussed through this book. Their reflections offer practical insights into the international efforts to develop these changes on the ground, and highlight the importance and value of an international community of practice to tackle these issues. All agree, this work needs doing urgently, now.
