ABSTRACT

Renewable energy is primarily about creating and distributing electricity. This chapter explains basic concepts about energy and power, how they are measured, and common variables used for all electrical equipment. It explains fundamental concepts about how to create circuits, identify how they are wired in order to correctly add either volts or amps, and be able to draw electrical diagrams. It delves into the history and definition of direct current (DC) vs. alternating current (AC) and discusses power distribution and ratings common in different countries. It discusses the difference in design between on-grid and off-grid voltages and touches on basic ICC NEC code requirements.
