ABSTRACT

Scientists and design engineers developing new products need to ensure that pertinent technical areas have been properly vetted in the course of design activities by considering the impact on various disciplines. Technical reviews are formal means to document that in-depth reviews by various pertinent stakeholders have taken place, in order to identify pitfalls and/or areas for improvement. Not all technical reviews carry the same weight; some reviews are considered to be product development milestone reviews and may make-or-break a program. For this reason, it is prudent to develop a checklist to ensure relevant elements have been properly studied and any design risks have been mitigated. This chapter provides examples of checklists for various stages within the NPD process.
