ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the authors summarize the different points of view on the analytics project and split various perspectives into three main areas – analytics maturity, IT maturity, and data maturity. Understanding stakeholders’ motivations is vital since the authors can change the analytics scope or type based on them. The authors combine analytics maturity, stakeholder maturity, and company maturity. Analytics maturity determines the direction of every analytics project. A descriptive analytics project may be done by drawing a picture (a chart) and pasting it into a presentation. Stakeholder maturity and company analytics maturity play a significant role in our projects from an analytics maturity point of view. The authors consider three types of metadata: business, technical and operational metadata, and each of them will matter in different types of assignments. Business metadata will be needed almost for any project as analysts will need a business understanding of the data used for data integrations or analytical calculations.
