ABSTRACT

Tissue Doppler imaging has an important role to play in the evaluation of myocardial mechanics, and it is most commonly associated with the assessment of left ventricular diastolic function. The technique also has applications in assessing left ventricular systolic function, right ventricular function, coronary artery disease, cardiomyopathies, valvular heart disease, dyssynchrony, constrictive pericarditis and restrictive cardiomyopathy. This chapter describes pulsed-wave and colour tissue Doppler imaging, together with their clinical applications and limitations.
