ABSTRACT
This chapter describes the echo assessment of left atrial morphology, volume and function. Morphological assessment includes inspection of left atrial size and shape and looking for any masses or spontaneous echo contrast. The calculation of left atrial volume is described, together with reference intervals. Methods for evaluating the function of the left atrium are also discussed.
