ABSTRACT

Different parts of the aorta are visible in many of the standard transthoracic echo views. This chapter discusses the optimal method for performing aortic root measurements and how the measurements should be indexed. The use of Z-scores in aortic root measurements is described. The causes of aortic dilatation are discussed, together with the echo assessment and management. The chapter also discusses the classification and management of aortic dissection, its echo evaluation and potential pitfalls. Finally, the echo assessment of sinus of Valsalva aneurysm and aortic atheroma are described.
