ABSTRACT
Myocardial mechanics can be assessed using the techniques of tissue Doppler imaging and speckle tracking. In this chapter, the fundamental elements of myocardial deformation imaging are discussed, principally the concepts of strain and strain rate, and how these parameters are measured using tissue Doppler imaging and speckle tracking.
