ABSTRACT

Czechia is bordered by Austria, Germany, Poland, and Slovakia. The lowest point of the republic is along the Elbe River, and the highest point is Snezka in the Krkonose Mountains. The country formally added the short-form name Czechia in 2016, while also continuing to use the full form name, the Czech Republic”. Between 1918 and 1932, the Military Geographic Institute applied the Lambert conformal conic projection for triangulation computations and mapping. For the calibration and processing of the GPS technology, the calibration network was established at Geodetic Observatory Pecny and Skalka. In the field of the geodetic control networks the department collaborates with the Land Survey Office and with the Department of Advanced Geodesy of the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the Czech University of Technology in Prague. In the Czech GIS society system WGS 84 plays an important and increasing role, especially in the field of photogrammetry and remote sensing.
