ABSTRACT

Flying into a window or other object at full speed can lead to a concussion. As a result, birds can be lethargic, have impaired coordination and/or have an abnormal position of the head or limbs. Birds should be placed in a dark and quiet environment at room temperature for a short period of time (for example 15 minutes). Placing the patient under a heat lamp can lead to an exacerbation of damage in the event of brain injury! Birds with concussions should be stabilized using fluid therapy, nutrition and oxygen. Heating of patients with concussions must be avoided to prevent further secondary brain injuries. Anti-inflammatory drugs may be indicated for brain swelling and headaches. Corticosteroids can cause serious side effects in birds and are therefore not recommended. Birds with concussions should be placed in quiet and silent places with dimmed lights.
