ABSTRACT

This chapter describes problems in container terminals. It also describes what the compartments are, including the equipment involved in them. There is expensive equipment in the storage area for container handling, referred to as Rubber Tyred Gantry Cranes (RTGCs). The efficiency of yard operations often depends on the productivity of these RTGCs and their deployment. The researcher provided a webpage for the research done in container terminals. Generally, a port has a limited number of berths, therefore the efficient allocation of berths to arriving vessels and Quay Cranes is essential to guarantee a ship's timing window, to minimize the ship's waiting time, and to maximize the port's turnaround. This decision affects the turnaround time of vessels, and the throughput rate of the terminal. In each port, there are several vehicles to carry containers between the yardside and quayside or vice versa.
