ABSTRACT
Construction features and design aspects of various machines utilised in seed preparation are discussed in this chapter. Discussion on machinery options available for different unit operations will help project engineers select appropriate machinery for their specific requirements. Discussion on control and safety systems should be of help to plant engineers and operators. Machinery drives have been touched upon.
Expanders are a relatively recent addition to the preparation machinery and add to the quality of seed preparation. These are discussed in detail, showing comparisons of extraction performance with or without expander, especially in the preparation of soybean, rice bran and cotton seed.
