ABSTRACT

Utility requirements for the solvent extraction process for various oilseeds are discussed in this chapter. This should serve as a guide to plant engineers, to check their own process efficiencies, and would also help students of oil technology and engineering. Apart from the major source materials, soybean, rapeseed and sunflower seed, figures for cottonseed and palm kernel are discussed too.

Utility requirements for mechanical expression of oil from rapeseed and sunflower seed have been discussed in volume 1 of this book. Since the prepress and solvent extraction operations are carried out in the same crushing facility (in adjacent buildings), utility requirements for both processes have been combined here in a separate table to give an overview of the combination process.
