ABSTRACT
This chapter discusses aspects of the safety of machinery and of workers, as also the workers’ health aspects and environmental issues. Safety aspects related specifically to the solvent extraction process are discussed at length, apart from a mention of common mechanical and electrical safety issues encountered in any process industry. Unlike the oil mill, the solvent extraction process involves the usage of an explosion-prone and flammable solvent. Precautions in plant and equipment design, and in plant operation, are discussed, along with additional safety features.
Few issues related to boiler gases, as also dust hazard, are described, along with their remedies.
