ABSTRACT

The chapter answers basic questions about why people should learn more about the community management role in the video games industry and what the key learnings of this book are. In clear language, it will illustrate the journey of an aspiring community manager from initial interest in the job to developing their voice once they have landed a job. The goal of this is to show readers at first glance whether this book is relevant for them. Following that, it presents a short profile of the author and her experience in this role and beyond, outlining her qualifications for writing about the topic. Additionally, the chapter describes the potential shortcomings of the author's perspective and what methods she uses to counter these issues. To support diverse viewpoints, she introduces two key elements that help elevate the book: interviews with industry experts that cover topics she cannot, be it because of her personal traits, the size of the companies and games she worked on, or the publishing methods she is experienced in and guest articles from some of her peers.
