ABSTRACT
This chapter presents the fundamentals of Industry 4.0 and its dependency on technological developments. Industry 4.0 leverages the latest tools and techniques available to industry. Technology adaption and adoption are the hallmarks of Industry 4.0. Industry 4.0 integrates digital and physical systems with mainstream automation, traditional, and next-generation technologies. The mandate for integration is what makes Industry 4.0 attractive to manufacturers. Beyond the technological backbone of Industry 4.0, there are many managerial aspects that must be recognized. If all manufacturing entities thrive under the framework of Industry 4.0, this means each manufacturing unit will prosper. It behooves all manufacturers to embrace elements of Industry 4.0 and be prepared for future developments in order to ensure the survival of “system of the whole.”
