ABSTRACT

The exponential development of the life sciences with molecular biology, gene editing, and high-resolution microscopy will enhance our insights and understanding of biological function. Quantum biology in turn is based on quantum chemistry and quantum mechanics. The insight into quantum chemistry will revolutionize the understanding of plant and animal biochemistry. Understanding the role of quantum coherence in biology allowing tunneling, spin correlation and entanglement will give us new insights into enzymatic and biological functions. Today’s quantum computers and simulators are currently pretty much in the same situation as were classical vacuum tube computers in the 1940s-constantly exposed to errors and failures. Quantum chemistry, AI and machine learning will help people design new molecules. Tuning molecular vibrations in chemical bonds will make ligand-receptor-binding more specific and the pharmacological effects more efficient. In the end, maybe the future of Life may be about quantum physics.
