ABSTRACT

This chapter emphasizes the importance of having the right mindset to be successful. A growth mindset, openness to learning, embracing challenges, and taking an active role in personal and career development are key factors in success. Successful information technology (IT) leaders have both technical competence and soft skills including communication, motivation, and relationship building. Leaders with integrity decide based on what is best for the organization, not themselves. They are genuine, honest, and humble. It also establishes that leaders are never done learning and need to be well-read, but they don't need to be the most technical employee on their team and should be comfortable that they won't know everything and should lean on their team to solve problems.
