ABSTRACT

This chapter describes a project that failed to achieve its objectives due to unforeseen Iron Sulfide precipitation on the equipment. The importance of FEED composition is highlighted. EPC contractor scope included detailed engineering, procurement, installation, testing, commissioning, and handover of facilities to the owner. The project scope was to process a large volume of separated effluent water coming out from various oil and gas processing facilities. After several trials, the contractor recognized the situation as a major problem with inlet streams and formally wrote to the company about their inability to commission the plant. They squarely placed the problem on the inlet feed streams in front of the owner company and therefore requested the owner to handle the same. Both the contractor and the owner engaged the services of separate specialized chemical companies to study the problem in detail and provide recommendations.
