ABSTRACT

The State of Georgia has over 100 state agencies that design, develop, and implement hundreds of projects each year that impact the services provided to its citizens. This chapter presents a case study that provides the background, development, and implementation of a governance solution that saved millions of dollars in project costs each year. The methodology used aligns with the Collaboration, Process Optimization, and Best Practice Metrics competencies of the Strategic Information Technology Governance 2.0 Model. Citizens for Georgia and the state agencies reap the benefits of the governance process improvements implemented by Teresa Reilly and her team due to the reinvented Critical Project Review Panel and the Georgia Enterprise Management Suite tool. With an average of $400–900 million of projects to govern each year, the State can now look at ways to improve project success. They now have a solution that can minimize risk, improve governance, and improve project success.
