ABSTRACT

Digital transformation initiatives comprise many projects that need to be executed successfully. Project failures cost the United States economy billions of dollars and threaten the existence of companies. Most projects fail due to communication breakdowns and a lack of senior management involvement. Organizations identify technology projects in two ways. Business units and information technology (IT) identify projects to improve business performance, and IT also identifies projects to improve technology infrastructure. Projects identified by business units involve a process that occurs before the project execution phase. One of the significant failures of current governance processes that manage the project lifecycle is that they are designed as reactive processes. What businesses require is a “proactive” governance project competency that is more strategic. This chapter shows the evolution of the characteristics of a Governance 1.0 JT Project compared to what is needed in, a Governance 2.0 model.
